I consider myself a bit of a coffee snob and own a quality drip coffee maker and grinder. I’ve been ordering directly from Volcanica for years and can vouch that they roast some quality beans. When I found out that they sell through Amazon , I wanted to take advantage of the free expedited shipping since I am a prime member. They were definitely good beans and have no complaints. However , if your a fellow coffee snob, what you’re missing is the freshness you get by ordering directly through Volcanica. They roast the beans the day before or even the day they get shipped to you. Nothing beats that smell when you open the package! The beans are still going through the degassing phase when they arrive. Through Amazon , the roasting date was a little over a month ago so they weren’t that old. But, that is what your paying the extra shipping for and in my opinion it’s worth it!

It’s the right level of bold! Love it and so does everyone that tries it!

A couple of disclaimers first. I’ve been grinding beans to brew coffee for a year and a half, first by mocha pot and then by pour-over methods, so I’m not a coffee expert. I have sampled only a half-dozen light, medium, and dark roast single-origin beans from Central and South America, and most recently, Sumatra. I usually get my beans from our local supermarket that has a very decent selection that is not very expensive. I tend to prefer a darker roast, so my personal taste preference is what it is. I drink my coffee black, without cream or sugar. I bought some dark-roast Starbucks brand Sumatra beans there for $7.19 for a 12-oz. bag, and I liked it a lot, brewed by the pour-over method. I went through a couple of bags, and it immediately became my favorite. I read more about Sumatra coffee online, and virtually every ranking puts Volcanica medium-roast Sumatra Mandheling beans as the top pick, with fantastic flavor descriptions. So I paid $20 for a pound, thinking that I was about to experience another coffee bean breakthrough. Instead, I was pretty disappointed. It’s not bad coffee, but I did not find it anywhere near exceptional as described online. Instead, I found it pretty average from my limited eperience, and I prefer the Starbucks Sumatra for half the price, by a wide margin. Which makes me wonder about the virtually unanimous online rankings, and whether they are as rigged as the 2020 election. I may try Volcanica’s dark roast version if I get over my suspicion that I’ve been played. That would be a better apples-to-apples comparison. In the meantime, I’m enjoying $7 Starbucks again.

It is so hard to get good coffee this year but this coffee has been fairly consistent over 3 orders so I have added it to my subscription now. Keep up the good work guys.

I’m not much of a coffee drinker myself but my wife really enjoys this coffee! Unfortunately our dogs seem to like it even more than my wife and have beaten us to the punch on more than one occasion when it comes to opening the package 😂

This is just ok but I also don’t like this style of coffee. The new trend is a fruitiness which this is and I hate. The coffee is quality and fresh. Most people should like it.

Amazing coffee that is effective at waking me up but none of the nasty heartburn I used to get with other brands. Love the smooth roasted flavor.

These are the best Sumatra beans I’ve been able to find!
